Kinglake Historical Society Story

KHS was officially formed in 1984. We have gathered and preserved an extensive range of maps, photographs and information. The KHS believes that the preservation of local history is vital in any community to give it a sense of its development and identity and its importance to the rest of the State and to Australia.  Knowing what the pioneers and the previous generations have achieved gives a community pride and a sense of achievement which can inspire the new residents to build for the future.  This is even more important in Kinglake since the devastation of the 2009 fires which destroyed so many houses, public buildings and natural landmarks.
The work of preserving the collection is being done by KHS volunteers who will also give their time to manning the collection when it is made available to visitors.
